Hearing protection act
« on: October 23, 2015, 04:34:08 AM »

Anyone else see the hearing protection act the American suppressor association helped get pushed into voting. Let's pray she gets approved. Call your rep representative and tell them to vote yes .

I saw that, and have been encouraging people on facebook to contact their reps. It's about time they pass some 'common sense' gun laws.

This is back in the light again.  And the great thing is lots of "green" folks are for noise reduction.
Now that Trump is in bets are piling up that this becomes reality in 2017...and watch the can business take off like a rocket.

I'm hoping if it does happen that the costs involved in suppressors take a nose dive.  There is utterly no reason they should cost what they do and i suspect it has to do with the manufacturer covering their cost in some form of fees on each one made.  My reason for thinking this is finding shotgun suppressors overseas that cost something like forty or fifty bucks instead of the several hundreds of dollars here.
I think it's just a targeted market thing, where they figure if you can afford to drop $200 on a tax stamp you can afford a couple hundred on the suppressor itself. Plus, a cost of product vs demand, or ROI type of thing. In other words, it cost the same to buy the mill/drill press/welder/etc. that you need to build cans, whether you're selling 10 per month or 100 per month.

Look up a Hubert's online catalog sometime and look at the prices for display rack and so forth for grocery stores. Something with $40 worth of lumber and built with nothing but overlapping joints that are screwed together, has no business selling for more than a couple hundred dollars. But because the demand is so low for them, because there are way less grocery stores out there buying furniture vs people buying furniture, they go for $600+  :crazy2:

Suppressors in other countries are not super expensive.

I hate to say it, but the German hardware stores sell cans for air rifles.  My Walther LGV air rifle is threaded for a can from the factory, because a .22 caliber pellet makes to much noise.

Unless they cracked down on it, you can buy '.22 Cal airgun suppressors' on EBay and GB.

Pneumatic and black powder sticks are not regulated by the feds.

I don't know how an air gun suppressor would work with the more modern once break open ones. My Winchester is loud from the chamber end. I don't even know what the muzzle end sounds like.
