"Need" a new shotgun.
« on: February 08, 2018, 08:52:27 PM »

Hey guys, I'd like some shotgun advice. I'd like to pick up a new shotgun to use for hunting and clays. Primarily turkey hunting, but I could also see using it for small game and coyote. I'd like something semi-auto, 12 gauge, and with threaded chokes.

For some reason the Mossberg 930 caught my eye. What say you?

Price range might be the biggest question.
I can recommend Benelli Super Black Eagle 3, but they run around $2,000.

Yeah, no.

I'm thinking about $500 give or take. I'm not looking for fancy or high end, just something functional.

That is pretty, but I think for turkey I'd like a 3" chamber.

I've never shot, only held a Stoeger M3500 but have heard good things on them for a reasonable priced shotgun.
They also have a M3000 line that might be up your alley. This line is synthetic where I prefer wood.

I like Remington 1100. Tons of parts for them out there.
Remmy also has the V3, Versa Max and 11-87. You might have to do some looking around at gun shows or gunbroker, but I would think you could find one close to $500.

I've also heard good things about the Weatherby  SA-08. They are importing them from Turkey but Weatherby had a hand in the development before they signed off on them.

You know, I had forgotten about the Stoeger. The M3000 looks like it fits the bill.

Remington sure is proud of that 1100, aren't they?

You can find deals out there but it will take some time to explore, but yes, they get some coin for them.
Someone on this forum just bought an 1100 for $350. Right place, right time I guess.

Check out some of the Turkish guns, too.

I picked up an ATI Alpha Sport a while back and have been torture testing it. It's a workhorse. I paid $229 and it has 1,100 rounds through it as of this past weekend. With quality ammo it is 100% reliable, but with the cheap Walmart stuff from Fed and Win it sometimes fails to extract.

I noticed the extractor spring on mine is VERY, VERY weak. Ordered a new Benelli extractor and spring, but have not installed them yet.

I think I've settled on the Stoeger. I went to a gun show yesterday and saw a bunch of Mossberg 930's but no Stoegers. Also saw several Remmy 1100's but they were 2 3/4 chambers. Sent the LGS a message to see what kind of price they can do.
